BOOKWORM CLUB - AGES 4 & 5

MONDAY-WEDNESDAY

Students bring a lunch and stay after the Monday & Wednesday morning Pre-K for the bookworm class.  This class is a fun reading enrichment program.

The Book Worm Club showcases children’s literature with a creative language approach to learning.  Many different learning styles & activities are used.  We use different types of books that have many different concepts helpful for building reading skills.  Examples of these concepts are rhymes, repetition, allusions to known things, additive patterns, labeling, everyday experiences, enriching language, detail, predictive language, math concepts, alliteration, adjectives, information & songs.  Activities vary according to the book, but include making book reproductions, props, costumes, games, and puppets.  We also video tape each book, either acting out the book individually or in a group, reading the book we made, or demonstrating a game, project or song.  The children develop reading readiness skills, but the main focus is to develop a love of books.
